Up to $8K! / Fresh New Video / Upcoming House Concerts

Hello Friends!

Good vibes abound! Slowly but surely (and in ways unexpected), we are making our way toward reaching the goal of 18K for “Fleur De Lis!”

When I first began this effort, admittedly I did so with some fears in terms of how strong the response would be, not to mention a bit of befuddlement by the general state of affairs in the music business.

HOWEVER!! This has turned out to be THE most enriching experience as well as having introduced some new people into my life I had only known transiently in the past.

One of those people is Rick Kaplan. Rick is the one creating the various studio vignettes I’ve been sending out here. The above video was found by surprise in my email on Friday and it really made me laugh so I’m sharing it with you.

Regrettably, I had to decline Rick’s initial offer to come to New Orleans to film the basic tracking. I had limited time and I didn’t feel as though I knew the musicians there well enough to impose a film crew on them and also, I didn’t know Rick at all. We finally met in Nashville and he filmed producer Brad Jones and I doing some overdubs and mixing. And now ~ dang it ~ I wish I’d had him in New Orleans! Hindsight is always 20/20 right?

Also, a few of you have stepped forward to help organize fund-raising house concerts for me. Jim Goodman organized one in Philadelphia last weekend and now I’m up to $8K in funds raised. Thank you Jim Goodman!!!

There are two more coming up soon in Delaware Annapolis, Maryland. Details below. There will also be one in NYC sometime this summer and maybe even in Kentucky!

If anyone else wants to discuss this possibility with me and help me kick this ball all the way through the goalposts, PLEASE reach out at RichardJulian2@AOL.com.

And most importantly, if you’d like to pre-order the record now, I will send you some new music to download right away, including a sneak-preview of one of the tracks from “Fleur De Lis.” Click here to find out how you can contribute.

Cheers for now!

Richard

7K Raised! / Richard Destroys Italian!

Hello friends!

I hope summer is treating you well!

I am pleased to report that “Fleur De Lis” is mixed! These. Tracks. Came. Out. Groovy!! I am really over the moon and can’t wait to tour and incorporate these sounds into the live performance. Some of the music is just plain joyful.

The next step from here is mastering and then on to artwork and manufacturing. We are just under 7K in fundraising (which is AMAZING), but naturally I have outspent all of that as a project with a personnel of this size requires a lot of time and budget to pull off. I can still use your help!

If you’re inclined to donate, now is the moment! I am extending the offer of a sneak preview of one of the tracks as well as two free downloads of previously unreleased material. Please scroll to the bottom of this blog to learn how to be a part!

A few people have really come through in the clutch by organizing house concerts specifically designed to raise funds for the record. I’m doing one in Philadelphia this Saturday, and three in NYC, Annapolis, and Delaware (my home state) next month. Please write me at RichardJulian2@AOL.com for details on attending or organizing a house concert. Another one or two of these, and I’m confident I can reach my goal of 18K.

I am so thankful and inspired by your attention and generosity. THANK YOU!!!

Cheers,

Richard

PS. My Italian, by the way, has gotten WAY better than in the video above. Thanks to Rick Kaplan (I guess) for capturing this moment.

New Video / Over $6.5K Raised / Onward Ho!

Interview with Brad Jones

Hello Friends and Happy June!

Above is a new video by Rick Kaplan featuring an interview with producer Brad Jones about “Fleur De Lis,” my latest record in progress. There’s also some nice footage of overdubs on the song, “Your Thing.” Hope you enjoy!

So far, I’ve raised 6.5K in my goal of reaching 18K. This, in and of itself, is a great milestone, and I am so thankful for your belief in me and my music.

Still, as you can imagine, a record of this nature requires a lot of time AND personnel. There is mixing, mastering, artwork, and manufacturing yet to be tackled. And above all, a top-notch (really just THE best) producer, who has worked tirelessly in good faith.

If you pre-order the record now, it will help a great deal! I am extending an offer I made to “first-responders” to receive a free download of an unreleased song, “Bridge,” for your early contribution! I am also offering a sneak preview of one of the tracks in process. AND a very cool re-make/re-take of my song “Sunday Morning In Saturday’s Shoes” with sousaphone.

Please scroll down to the bottom of this page for details on how to contribute!

Also, a few people have gotten in touch with me about organizing fundraising house concerts I’m performing one in NYC and one in Philadelphia this June. If you think you can gather 40-50 people at your home, and want to do something like this with me (wherever you are in the US), please get in touch with me at RichardJulian2@aol.com. We can discuss the arrangements.
Cheers,

Richard

Over 6K raised!…..Onward to 18K!

Hello Friends….

Hope you are enjoying the Spring!

An Update on Fleur De Lis!

In case any of you missed it, below is a video by Rick Kaplan featuring myself, and Brad Jones, working on “You’re Only Gonna Die “, one of the tracks from the upcoming release.   I’m told that Rick is carving out a new vignette I hope to share with you soon.

I can’t begin to express what a delight it’s been working in New Orleans, and what a transformative experience it’s turned out into.

There are times in your life where you feel like you’re learning/seeing/hearing everything for the first time, and this is one of them.  I live for this.   The music feels fresh and unpredictable.  And surprisingly…delightfully…the songs are sounding at home here.

So far, I’ve raised 6K in my goal of reaching 18K.   As you can imagine, I’ve already outpaced the amount raised in expenses as this record has involved a large number of personnel, and the project’s been time intensive getting new arrangements just right.  There are still mixes to be tweaked, mastering to be accomplished, and a producer who has yet to be paid.

If you are inclined to pre-order the record, now is the time!   I am extending an offer I made to “first-responders” to receive a free download of an unreleased song, “Bridge”, for your early contribution!   I am also offering a sneak preview of one of the tracks in process, available only until Tuesday, May 29th.

Also,  few people have gotten in touch with me about organizing fundraising house concerts  I’m performing one in NYC and one in Philadelphia this June.   If you think you can gather 40-50 people at your home, and want to do something like this with me (wherever you are in the US), please get in touch with me at RichardJulian2@aol.com.  We can discuss the arrangements.

Meanwhile, enjoy this spring weather!

Cheers,

Richard

We have hit the 5K mark!

Hello friends!

Above is a video of Brad Jones and me in the studio putting some touches on my upcoming record “Fleur De Lis.”   The video was shot by Rick Kaplan who reached out to me when I began this fundraising effort with a most generous offer to document the proceedings.  I am blown away by his generosity as well as the generosity of many others throughout this process.

I’ve raised over 5K already and it’s only been a month!   The music is truly exceeding what were already my high expectations. New Orleans is rocking my world and I think it will rock yours as well!

I’m still aiming to raise 18K and if you make a donation within the next week, I will send you a free download of my UN-released song, “Bridge” which I just recorded for another project in February.

A few people have written me about performing house concerts for a different scale than what has been offered on the various donation levels.  And I am open to that as well so please write me at richardjulian2@aol.com with any questions of that regard.

To pre-order the record or pledge at any level, click here or just scroll to the bottom of this blog for details.  Meanwhile, enjoy the video!

Cheers,

Richard

Over 4K raised! Upcoming NYC appearance!

Hello Friends and Happy Spring!

A couple of important news items…

1)  “FLEUR DE LIS” UPDATE!

Thanks to your support, in just a few short weeks, I’ve raised just over $4,000 in my goal to reach $18,000 to make my new record, “Fleur de Lis”.

Because the record will be soaked in the sounds and flavors of New Orleans, you’ll hear every cent you donate in the grooves of this album. This includes a gorgeous horn section we recorded last week.  And this week, I head down south to begin the next phase of production that we’ll be filming and showing to y’all as soon as the footage is cleaned and pressed.

EXTRA BONUS FOR EARLY BIRD CONTRIBUTIONS:  If you make a donation at any level by the end of this week (Deadline: Sunday, April 22nd), you’ll receive an MP3 of a previously unreleased song, “Bridge” which I just recorded for another project this past February.  I’ll send this to you as fast as my email can transmit it.

In the Crescent City we call these little extra bonuses “lagniape” (lan-yap).  And so, this exclusive track is one way of expressing my utmost appreciation for your continued interest in my music and career.

To contribute AND receive the exclusive recording of “Bridge,” scroll to the bottom of this page.

2)  HEAR THE NEW SONGS LIVE & IN PERSON…IN NYC!

On Saturday, April 28 the band and I are debuting a good deal of new material.  I’m looking forward (if even a bit nervous) to putting out some new sounds and ideas.   We’re gonna play the bigger Rockwood 2 room since folks have been turned away at the last few gigs in the smaller, Rockwood 1 room.  In other words, we want everyone to hear the new tunes in comfort ~ But not so comfortable you forget to holler, dance, or do what you do!

Please pass this notice along to anyone who might be interested and

hope to see you soon!

Thanks!

Richard

$3650 Raised So Far!

Hello all! And thank you!

Thanks to your enthusiasm, I have managed to raise $3650 in three short weeks to make Fleur De Lis and have even begun recording!  I am pleased to report that so far it is exceeding what were already my high expectations.  It’s a joy to be working with producer Brad Jones again.  And we have been blessed with a great New Orleans lineup to boot, which includes Jon Cleary, Johnny Vidacovich, and Terrence Higgins.  These sounds are bringing some freshness into my world and I couldn’t be more juiced.  I still need need to raise another 14.5K to reach my goal of 18K as it’s an intensive project which involves a good number of horn players and studio time to get right.  If you’re considering a pledge, now is a GREAT time. Please scroll down below for details!

The video above was taken by Jason Jurzak who played some sousaphone for us this week. It captures a moment of teaching a new song, “Gypsy Lover”, to Johnny Vidacovich, a revered New Orleans drummer who I can safely say sounds like NO ONE I’ve ever heard.  Johnny’s been around long enough to have worked with Professor Longhair and James Booker back in the day, not to mention teaching Brian Blade.  Dang.

I’m playing a good deal of piano on this record. And for this song, I’m using the lush-sounding seven foot grand they had on tap at the studio. However, for the other tunes, I hauled my Wurlitzer spinet out there to get that funkier clunkier sound I’ve grown too attached to leave behind!

Again, thanks loads for paying attention out there. I hope you will be as pleased with the results as I am so far.

Cheers,

Richard
